According to reports, the incident happened after the photographer allegedly witnessed the street boy stealing a mobile phone from a passerby.
The photographer is said to have reported the theft, a move that angered the boy and led to the attack. The video captures the street boy confronting and physically assaulting the photographer as onlookers stare in shock.
A report seen by this author states: “Young goons wreaking havoc in Nairobi CBD, with a photographer reportedly attacked after witnessing and reporting a phone theft incident in the area.” The report adds that such incidents are becoming more common in the city centre.
The clip has triggered mixed reactions among Kenyans. Some condemned the attack and expressed concern over the safety of members of the public.
Others questioned why police officers were not present at such a busy area, despite the CBD being known for frequent patrols.
At the same time, some members of the public have raised alarm over growing insecurity in parts of Nairobi CBD. They claim that certain areas are no longer safe, blaming the situation on the increasing presence of street families and gangs who reportedly operate freely.
