Emotional Moment as Kitui Mum Who Abandoned Daughter as Baby Reunites With Her After 18 Years

Emotions ran high in Kaumba, Mulango, Kitui Central, when a mother and her daughter finally embraced after nearly two decades apart.

Their touching reunion, captured on video, has moved many Kenyans online.

The daughter, Mary Wambui Koine, could not hold back tears as she wrapped her arms tightly around her mother, Jennifer Mueni Muasya, who had left her when she was only six months old.

Both women wept uncontrollably, using handkerchiefs to wipe away their tears as family members and friends tried to comfort them.

According to Musyi FM, Muasya’s decision to abandon her child in 2007 was not out of neglect but due to serious challenges in her marriage.

At the time, irreconcilable differences with her husband forced her to leave her baby behind in Mathioya, Murang’a. She admitted that it was the hardest decision of her life but felt she had no other choice.

Years later, the longing to reconnect grew stronger. Relatives, including Wambui’s aunt, played a key role in tracing Muasya, leading to the long-awaited reunion.

Their first meeting after 18 years was emotional, with both women struggling to speak as they cried in each other’s arms.

In the viral clip, Muasya clutched her phone with one hand while holding her daughter’s waist with the other.

Wambui, dressed in a white T-shirt and jeans, leaned on her mother’s shoulder, unable to contain her sobs. The reunion was so moving that even onlookers were seen shedding tears.

Social media users quickly shared their thoughts, with some sympathizing with the mother while others questioned her past decision.

“Some mothers are forced into impossible situations. It’s painful, but not always out of choice,” wrote Magdaline Syongwe.

“Eighteen years is too long, but I’m glad the daughter still wanted to find her mum,” added Felistus Mbithi.

Another user, Faith Musyoka, defended Muasya, saying, “People judge too quickly without knowing what someone has been through. This story was heartbreaking.”
