Kalonzo Musyoka Lands Flagbearer Position as MP Junet Mohamed Gets Demoted in Lasted Azimio Coalition Changes

According to available sources of news, the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition is clearly tired of playing defense.

In a move that signals a reloading phase for the opposition, the coalition has announced a major leadership shake-up, effectively positioning Kalonzo Musyoka as the new face of the outfit while showing the door to some long-standing veterans.

For months, many pundits wrote off Azimio as a dead man walking, especially after a significant chunk of the ODM wing began working with President William Ruto’s administration.

However, under the chairmanship of Uhuru Kenyatta, the coalition is proving it still has some cards to play.

By appointing Kalonzo Musyoka as the new party leader, the coalition is finally giving him the platform many of his supporters have demanded for years.

It’s a clear nod to his loyalty and a tactical play to consolidate his base ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The changes have not stopped at the top. In what many are calling a demotion, fhe vocal Suba North MP Junet Mohammed has been replaced as Secretary-General.

Taking his place is Caroli Omondi, a move that suggests a desire for a different strategic direction, perhaps one that is less combative and more organizationally focused.

This internal housekeeping comes at a frantic pace, following just hours after Raphael Tuju tendered his resignation as Executive Director, handing over the reins to Philip Kisia.

With the political broad-based government blurring the lines between the opposition and the state, Azimio needs a distinct identity.

These changes aren't just about titles, they are about reclaiming the opposition narrative, consolidating regional bases before the 2027 realignment hits full speed.

Whether this revival will be enough to bridge the gaps within the crumbling coalition remains to be seen, but one thing is certain that the race for 2027 has officially moved into a higher gear.
