Governor Wanga on Spot as she is Warned After She Mentioned Uhuru's Name Linking Him to Chaos in ODM

Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina has ignited a fresh political storm after publicly warning Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga to stop mentioning retired President Uhuru Kenyatta in her political remarks, escalating tensions within and around the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

In a strongly worded post shared on her official X account on Monday, December 29, Maina accused Governor Wanga of dragging Uhuru’s name into succession politics as she positions herself for a higher role ahead of the 2027 General Election.

According to Maina, while Wanga is free to pursue her political ambitions, she should do so without attacking or maligning the former Head of State.

“By now, we all know that Gov. Gladys Wanga wants to be awarded the ‘token’ of Deputy President in 2027; it is within her political rights, but she should keep H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta out of her crass mouth,” Maina wrote, in a post that quickly gained traction online and drew mixed reactions from political observers and ODM supporters.

Maina’s remarks came in response to recent statements by Wanga, who, alongside other senior ODM leaders, has accused Uhuru of attempting to destabilise the party from within.

ODM chairperson Wanga and National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed have claimed that the former President is allegedly using individuals within the party to sow divisions, a charge that has further complicated the party’s internal dynamics.

The controversy follows comments made by Wanga on Sunday in Homa Bay, where she spoke in the presence of President William Ruto-led regime’s head, President William Ruto, during a public event.

In her address, Wanga accused Uhuru of deploying “wheeler-dealers” to interfere with ODM’s affairs, warning that the party would firmly resist any attempts to undermine its unity.

“We have respect for President Uhuru Kenyatta. However, if you want to destroy the ODM Party by sending wheeler-dealers to us, then we reject your plans. We will not take that matter lightly,” Wanga said.
