Residents of Kipendeni village in Narok are still in shock after a heartbreaking incident where a 62-year-old man allegedly hacked his 12-year-old son to death during a domestic quarrel.
According to reports, the sad event happened over the weekend when an argument between the father and his wife suddenly turned violent.
The boy is said to have tried calming his father down, but the old man, already consumed by anger, turned against his own son with a panga. The child suffered deep cuts on the head and other parts of the body and died on the spot.
“We are deeply saddened by what happened. This was a quiet family, and no one expected such a tragedy,” said one villager.
Police from Olengape station confirmed the incident, saying the suspect is in custody and will appear in court to face murder charges.
The body of the boy has been taken to the Narok County mortuary for post-mortem as investigations continue to determine the real cause of the dispute.
Area Chief Samuel Karanja condemned the act, urging families to seek peaceful ways of solving disagreements instead of resorting to violence.
“It’s painful to see a parent take the life of his own child. We must encourage dialogue and community counseling to avoid such sad scenes,” he said.
