What Ruto is Reportedly Avoiding Saying in His Rallies After Realising Kenyans Are Angry With Him

Occurring only a 2 years into his term, questions arise about whether this is a genuine effort to fulfill pledges or a strategic move for the 2027 election, or perhaps both.

Ruto's itinerary covers over 20 counties in the last three months, reflecting a crucial aspect of his strategy to rebuild public trust amid challenges like rising living costs and heavy taxation.

Critics argue that these tours, seemingly focused on development, also serve as early campaigning to consolidate support.

The President's administration faces criticism for economic policies, including heavy taxes, leading to financial strain for many.

Opposition accuses Ruto of worsening the cost of living with excessive taxation, calling it a flawed solution to development needs.

"The government officials are worsening the cost of living because they have no idea how to make it better," he said.

While Ruto's team emphasizes development aspects and citizen engagement, political analysts remain divided on his true intentions.

Some, like Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga, view the tours as a genuine commitment to address economic concerns.

"There is nothing wrong with the president going to inspect and most importantly to monitor their progress of projects and explain to the people what he is doing," Wahome told the Star in an interview.

But political analyst Mark Bichache sees them as a calculated campaign move, claiming that this is just Ruto trying to campaign for 2027.

But he noted that Ruto is avoiding telling Kenyans his real intentions, which is their votes again in 2027, because he knows he has failed them and most are not happy with him.

"Ruto is campaigning. The only difference in his campaigns is that he is not giving a clue to the public about his intentions," he said.

"Whereas he is talking about his projects and taxes, it is not engaging with Kenyans simply because they have many problems they want solved."
