Kabando wa Kabando Explains Why He Rejected Ruto’s State House Invitation

Former Mukurweini MP Kabando wa Kabando has revealed why he declined an invitation from President William Ruto to visit State House.

In a detailed statement on Sunday, September 14, 2025, Kabando said he chose not to attend because doing so would have weakened his ability to openly criticise the government.

According to him, meeting the President privately would have made it difficult to hold him accountable for what he described as failures in governance.

“President Ruto invited me to State House. Many of my friends advised me to go, arguing it was a chance to benefit financially or even secure a government position. But after days of reflection, I chose to decline. I want to remain free to speak my mind and defend public interest without compromise,” Kabando explained.

The outspoken politician argued that those rushing to State House were not acting in the public’s best interest but were enabling poor leadership.

He accused leaders who accept money from Ruto of sanitising corruption and betraying the legacy of Kenya’s freedom fighters.

“Accepting handouts from State House is equivalent to endorsing theft of public resources. If we all reject this culture, then our fight against corruption will gain real meaning,” he said, adding that integrity in leadership remains Kenya’s biggest challenge.

Kabando further warned that Kenya’s opposition leaders must remain united if they are serious about challenging Ruto’s presidency.

He believes a divided opposition would only help the Head of State tighten his grip on power.

“Ruto may be clever and politically crafty, but he cannot defeat a strong, united opposition. For change to come, leaders must put aside personal interests and focus on saving the country,” Kabando urged.

He also praised the younger generation, especially Gen Z activists, for their growing role in demanding accountability.

Kabando described their current calmness as a “quiet before the storm,” predicting a strong wave of political change in the near future.
