Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has urged the father of slain blogger and teacher Albert Omondi Ojwang to be wary of politicians who may be exploiting his grief for political mileage.

In a heartfelt message to the grieving family, the ODM lawmaker advised Meshack Ojwang to remain focused on mourning his son rather than entertaining offers and promises from leaders, particularly those aligned with the government.

Albert Ojwang was found dead in a police cell at Nairobi's Central Police Station, shortly after being arrested in Homa Bay.

The outspoken blogger had reportedly criticised Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat on social media, a move that allegedly led to his arrest and subsequent detention under mysterious circumstances.

Following the public uproar over his death, several politicians have reached out to the bereaved family with messages of condolence, financial aid, and promises of support.

President William Ruto reportedly donated KSh 2 million to the family, while Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja pledged to support Ojwang’s widow, including promises of employment and housing. Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga also promised to build the family a permanent house.

However, Amisi expressed concern that these gestures may be politically motivated and intended to pacify public anger over the blogger's death.

“To Albert Ojwang’s father, first, I offer my deepest condolences once again. Second, I urge you to avoid political machinations and state-sponsored narratives aimed at calming the rage of Kenyans,” said Amisi.

He cautioned Meshack Ojwang against falling into what he termed as “political traps,” warning that no material gain could ever replace the life of a loved one.

“No amount of money, promises, jobs, houses, wives, and other lies can return your son to this world. You loved your son. Mourn him and keep off the media and politicians. Do this for the respect of your son. God shall provide the rest,” he added.

Amisi’s sentiments sparked mixed reactions among Kenyans online. While some praised the MP for speaking out candidly, others felt that support from leaders, regardless of their intentions, could still be beneficial to the grieving family.

Ojwang's death has intensified public scrutiny of Kenya’s policing system, with citizens and civil society groups demanding accountability and justice.

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has already launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death.

Meanwhile, Ojwang’s father has confirmed that both President Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga personally called him to express their condolences. He also stated that he welcomed support from any well-wishers, as long as it helps his family cope with the loss.
