A well-known political analyst, Professor Herman Manyora, has warned three young ODM leaders against going against their party leader Raila Odinga.
Speaking on Friday, July 25, 2025, through his YouTube channel, Prof. Manyora said Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, and Saboti MP Caleb Amisi should be careful with their recent public statements.
He said these statements appear to question or oppose Raila’s support for a broad-based government plan.
“These young leaders must be very careful. You can challenge other politicians, but not Raila,” Manyora said.
“Criticizing Raila directly is risky. It could destroy your political future.”
The warning comes days after the three leaders made comments that were seen as opposing Raila Odinga’s position.
Raila, who is the ODM party leader and a key figure in national politics, has recently shown support for a proposed power-sharing government that includes leaders from different political sides.
However, Sifuna, Babu Owino, and Amisi have raised concerns, suggesting that such moves may weaken the opposition.
Manyora urged the trio to show respect and loyalty to Raila, reminding them that their political rise has been strongly linked to the former Prime Minister’s support. He said going against the party leader in public could be seen as betrayal.
“It is not about fear,” Manyora explained, “but about loyalty and understanding political reality. Raila is not just any leader—he is a symbol in Kenyan politics.”
The ODM party has not yet released an official statement about the recent tensions. However, Manyora’s comments highlight growing cracks within the opposition party, especially between the older and younger generation of leaders.
Political experts believe the growing frustration among young leaders comes from a feeling of being sidelined in major decisions. They argue that their voices should also be heard in shaping the future of the party.
Still, Prof. Manyora warned that speaking out against Raila publicly could have serious consequences. He said it would be wiser for the leaders to air their concerns privately within party structures.
“Politics is about timing and respect,” he concluded.
