MP Caleb Amisi Who Topped in KCPE Graduates Top of Master's Degree Class

Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has added another feather to his cap after graduating as the best student in his Master of Arts in International Relations class at the United States International University–Africa (USIU-A).

The colorful graduation ceremony took place on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at the university’s Nairobi campus.

Amisi, who is serving his second term in Parliament, revealed on his official social media pages that he had scored an impressive Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.913 out of a possible 4.0, making him the top student in his class.

“I graduated as a top student in the Master of Arts in International Relations from USIU. GPA 3.913 out of 4.00. I thank God for this achievement,” he proudly shared.

Reflecting on his journey, Amisi recalled the challenges of his childhood.

He narrated how he grew up as an orphan with very limited opportunities but managed to excel through determination and hard work.

“Twenty-five years ago, an orphaned boy walked through the gates of Starehe Boys’ Centre carrying only a padlock. This was after emerging as the top student in the Western Province during the 2000 KCPE exams. With no hope of paying high school fees, Starehe became my last chance,” he wrote.

He added that the same boy has now risen to graduate as the top student in a master’s program, balancing politics and demanding public service responsibilities.

For him, the milestone was not just an academic achievement but also proof that determination can overcome poverty and hardship.

A look at his academic history shows that Amisi’s excellence is not new. A result slip from the 2000 KCPE examinations confirmed that he scored 590 out of 700 marks, with straight As in Mathematics, English, and Science.

His strong performance earned him admission to Starehe Boys, a school that has shaped many leaders in Kenya.

He explained that those early victories gave him the confidence to dream bigger despite his background.

“We do not choose where, when, and whom to be born from, but we definitely have the power to choose our destiny,” he noted.

The ODM lawmaker, who is currently associated with the Kenya Moja political outfit, said that his new qualification would directly support his legislative duties.

He pointed out that the skills and insights gained during his studies will help him serve better in Parliament, especially in committees that deal with foreign relations.

“This will really help improve my work, particularly in the Foreign Relations Committee. Poverty fears determination,” he said, adding that education continues to shape how he approaches leadership.

Amisi currently serves as a member of the Defence, Intelligence, and Foreign Relations Committee in the National Assembly. He is also the Vice Chairperson of the Public Investments Committee and sits in the Appointments Committee, which plays a crucial role in vetting government appointees.

Amisi’s achievement comes at a time when many Kenyan leaders are pursuing higher education to sharpen their leadership skills.

Just last week, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro graduated from the University of Nairobi with a Master of Arts in Economics. Similarly, Head of Public Service Felix Koskei graduated with a Master’s in Zoology from the same university.
