The Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) in Kisumu has appealed to the public to help trace the family of a woman who has remained unidentified since her admission nearly a month ago.
According to hospital officials, the patient was brought to the facility on 12th August 2025.
While she has been receiving treatment, she has not been able to provide her name or any details about her relatives.
Efforts by staff to reach her family have so far been unsuccessful.
Medical Superintendent Dr. Everline Onyango explained that the hospital usually handles such cases by involving community leaders, local administrators, and the media.
“We are asking members of the public to assist us in identifying this patient so that we can connect her with her family.
Hospitals provide medical care, but every patient needs the emotional support of loved ones during recovery,” she said.
The hospital has since shared her photo and details through local networks, hoping that someone will recognize her.
The administration has also provided a direct contact number—0725 313 650—for anyone with useful information.
Cases of unidentified patients are not new in large referral hospitals, where accident victims, mentally ill persons, or vulnerable individuals are sometimes admitted without proper documentation.
In many cases, hospitals rely on public appeals to trace families.
Community members have been urged to circulate the information widely on social media platforms to increase the chances of identification.
Local residents in Kisumu expressed sympathy for the woman and called on the public to assist. “This could be someone’s mother, sister, or daughter.
We cannot leave her alone. Let us spread the word so that her family can be found,” said one resident outside the hospital.
The hospital has assured that the woman is stable and continues to receive care.
However, officials insist that reuniting her with her relatives is a top priority.
“No one deserves to go through recovery in isolation,” Dr. Onyango emphasized.
