According to government pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor, Mbobu was shot eight times, injuries that caused massive bleeding and led to his death on the spot.
Dr. Oduor released the findings on Thursday, September 11, 2025, after leading a medical team that examined the lawyer’s body.
He explained that the bullets caused severe damage to vital organs, making survival impossible.
Two bullets were also recovered during the examination, further confirming the extent of the attack.
Mbobu was killed on Tuesday night, September 9, while driving home along Magadi Road near the Brookside area in Karen, Nairobi.
Witnesses said unknown assailants in another car sprayed his vehicle with bullets in what investigators now describe as a targeted drive-by shooting.
Police officers who arrived at the scene recovered three spent cartridges. Initial reports suggested that most of the shots were directed at his head, leaving him with no chance of escape.
However, the final postmortem confirmed that he was struck eight times in total. Detectives have also raised concerns about missing cartridges that were not found in his vehicle, a gap that has deepened the mystery around the murder.
The news of his death has sparked shock and fear within the legal fraternity. Mbobu, a respected advocate and senior member of the bar, was well known for handling high-profile cases.
Colleagues described him as a lawyer who stood firmly for justice and mentored many young professionals in the field.
Leaders, including senior lawyers and human rights activists, have called for quick investigations to ensure those behind the attack are arrested.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has assured the public that the government is treating the matter with urgency, promising that “no stone will be left unturned.”
Meanwhile, security agencies have intensified patrols in Nairobi following concerns over rising incidents of violent crime.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are pursuing leads, with sources saying that the murder may have been planned in advance.
