The controversy surrounding Kamba gospel musician Phyllis Mutisya has taken a dramatic twist after reports emerged that she attempted to take her own life following the exposure of her alleged affairs.
Her husband, Tiras Muange, recently shocked Kenyans with a Facebook post in which he accused her of infidelity spanning eight years of their 12-year marriage.
He alleged that she had been involved with more than 20 men, including married individuals, leaving him and other families devastated.
Soon after Muange’s revelation went viral, Mutisya reportedly ingested poison in what sources close to the family described as an act of despair.
She was quickly rushed to a local hospital, where doctors managed to save her life. At the time of writing, she is said to be recovering while under close observation.
The alleged suicide attempt has deepened public debate around the scandal. Many Kenyans expressed shock, with some sympathising with her emotional turmoil, while others argued that she was trying to escape accountability for her actions.
Earlier, Mutisya was said to have sent an apology to her husband, admitting to her mistakes and blaming them on spiritual attacks.
“Nilala na hao watu bahati mbaya, I am sorry my husband. Ni shetani anataka kuvunja ndoa yetu, nisamehe, haitawahi fanyika tena,” the message read in part.
Despite the apology, Muange insisted he was choosing peace and had surrendered the matter to God, declaring that their marriage was over.
