A family in Bomet County is celebrating a reunion they never thought possible after their son, who disappeared shortly after birth, returned home 43 years later.
The man, identified as Julius Chepsengeny, was reportedly stolen from a hospital just hours after his mother gave birth.
His devastated parents were later told that the newborn had died, a story they accepted with heavy hearts and lived with for more than four decades.
Unknown to them, Chepsengeny had been raised elsewhere under different guardianship. For years, the family carried unanswered questions and unhealed wounds until news recently reached them that their missing son might still be alive.
The emotional reunion took place at the family’s home in Bomet. Relatives, neighbors, and community leaders turned up to witness the remarkable moment as Chepsengeny walked into the compound.
He was welcomed with tears, songs, and ululations as his parents embraced him tightly after years of grief.
One of the most striking moments of the reunion was when Chepsengeny met his twin sister, Mary Chebet.
The resemblance between the two was undeniable, with many people expressing shock at how closely they mirrored each other. Family members said the likeness alone erased any doubts they had.
Although the family initially planned to carry out a DNA test to officially confirm their son’s identity, the process was delayed due to fears raised by the guardians who had raised him.
Even so, the emotional connection and family bond were enough for many to believe that Julius had finally come back home.
Community elder Koech Manasseh described the reunion as “a miracle that proves nothing is impossible.”
He said the story had restored hope to many families still searching for lost loved ones.
The news of the reunion quickly spread online, sparking mixed reactions among Kenyans.
Some celebrated the family’s joy, while others demanded to know who had abducted the child and why no one had ever been held accountable.
For the Chepsengeny family, however, the focus is not on the pain of the past but on the blessing of the present.
“We thought our son was gone forever, but God has brought him back,” a family spokesperson said, as the crowd cheered.
