The court case about the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has now become more serious after new claims were shared in court.
Lawyer Teresiah Wanjiru told the judges that some Members of Parliament and Senators were given as much as Sh1 million each so that they can agree to remove Gachagua from office.
This is a very heavy claim, and it has made many people start to question how the whole process was done.Wanjiru spoke in a strong way and said the impeachment was not done in a clean and honest way.
She said there was a lot of money moving around, and some leaders were pushed to make decisions not because it was right, but because they were promised money.
She explained that leaders who were supposed to protect the Constitution ended up putting money first. Because of this, she said the whole process looked planned and not fair from the beginning.
She also told the court that there were clear court orders that said the impeachment process should stop, but these orders were not followed.
According to her, both MPs and Senators continued with the process even after they were told to stop.
She said this shows that some leaders do not respect the law and think they are above it. She added that ignoring court orders is a very serious matter and should not be taken lightly.
Wanjiru warned that if leaders are allowed to ignore the law and continue with such actions, then it can bring big problems in the country.
She said it creates a bad culture where leaders just do what they want without caring about the law or the people carefully and make a fair decision that will protect the Constitution.
However, leaders who supported the impeachment have denied all these claims.
They said the process was done in the right way and followed the law. They also said there is no clear proof that any money was given to influence the decision.
Many Kenyans are watching this case very closely. They want to see what the court will decide and whether the truth will finally come out in the open.
