Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has launched a scathing attack on Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, accusing him of hypocrisy and internal sabotage regarding the leadership status of Dr. Oburu Odinga.
Speaking during an appearance on JKLive, Wanga detailed a controversial sequence of events surrounding Dr. Oburu’s position within the party’s National Governing Council (NGC).
She recalled a session held in Mombasa where Sifuna personally conducted the proceedings that confirmed Dr. Oburu’s position, including the swearing-in.
“When the party made a decision on the issue of Dr. Oburu and the NGC that confirmed Dr Oburu was conducted by Edwin Sifuna in Mombasa, conducted fully, and the swearing in and everything, he conducted the whole session,” Wanga stated.
However, the Governor expressed outrage over what she described as a blatant contradiction.
She noted that shortly after overseeing the session, Sifuna appeared on national television to declare that the same Dr. Oburu was “illegitimately in office.”
Wanga argued that such actions are not merely inconsistent but fundamentally destructive to the party’s stability.
She emphasized that when the Secretary General the administrative head of the partypublicly delegitimizes the organization’s leader, it renders the party dysfunctional.
“When you delegitimize the leader of an organization, then that organization has no way forward,” Wanga asserted.
Her remarks highlight the deepening internal rifts within ODM, pointing to a critical disconnect between the party’s leadership structures.
By accusing Sifuna of effectively paralyzing the party through public contradictions, Wanga signaled that the internal dispute over Oburu’s leadership is not just a personal disagreement but an existential threat to the party’s cohesion and ability to move forward.
