Residents of Senti Kumi in Shelly Beach, Likoni Sub-County, are in shock following the discovery of the body of an unidentified woman in an unfinished building, in what police suspect to be a murder case.
The grim discovery was made by locals who found the lifeless body lying among heaps of garbage inside one of the rooms of the nearly completed structure.
Alarmed by the scene, they quickly alerted authorities, prompting a swift response from police officers.
According to Likoni Sub-County police commander Joseph Mutungi, the report was first relayed by a village elder who had overheard residents about the disturbing incident.
Officers who arrived at the scene confirmed that the deceased was an African woman estimated to be around 35 years old.
Preliminary examinations revealed visible injuries, including bruises on the face and swelling on the right ear, suggesting she may have been assaulted using a blunt object.
However, investigators believe the killing may not have occurred at the scene, raising suspicions that the body was dumped at the location.
Police have since collected fingerprints from the deceased, which will undergo forensic analysis to help establish her identity and possibly trace those responsible for her death.
An eyewitness, Sherly Mwangasu, recounted how she stumbled upon the scene after noticing a crowd gathering near her residence.
Upon getting closer, she saw the body lying in a corner surrounded by trash. She noted the absence of blood stains, reinforcing suspicions that the woman had been killed elsewhere.
Mwangasu further claimed that this was not an isolated incident, alleging that similar cases have occurred in the area before, with bodies reportedly dumped after killings at nearby beach locations.
Despite describing the neighbourhood as generally peaceful, residents are now expressing growing concern over their safety.
They have urged security agencies to intensify patrols to curb the rising trend and restore a sense of security.
The body was moved to Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary as investigations continue.
