Heavy rains that recently hit and other parts have left families mourning as the death toll linked to flooding continues to rise.
At, grief filled the air as relatives gathered to search for missing loved ones and identify bodies recovered after the storms.
Among those confirmed dead is Martin Akani, a bodaboda rider who was swept away by strong floodwaters while trying to cross a flooded road in the city at about 10 p.m.
A video that circulated online shows the rider struggling to keep control of his motorcycle before the powerful current overpowered him.
His friend Morris Zawo recalled the painful moment.
He said Martin attempted to cross the water, but the current was too strong and quickly carried him away.
The tragedy has also reunited a family that had not seen the victim for many years.
Martin’s uncle, John Muyonga, said they had not heard from him for fifteen years until the police called them to identify his body at the mortuary.
Doctors who carried out postmortem examinations on eight bodies recovered this week confirmed that all the victims died from drowning.
Many families say the pain of losing their loved ones has been made worse by the long process of identification and paperwork.
Some families have criticised both the national government and the for what they call a delayed response during the floods.
As rescue teams continue searching rivers and drainage channels, several families still wait anxiously, hoping their missing relatives may yet be found alive.
