FIDA Clears Air For Allegedly Calling On Gachagua's Prosecution Over Death Of Female Student

The Federation of Women Lawyers in Kenya has dismissed as fake a statement circulating online that links former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to the alleged murder of a university student.

In a notice posted on X, the organisation clarified that it did not author or release the statement, urging the public to ignore it.

The fabricated document had called for an immediate criminal investigation into the death of Regina Wairimu, naming Gachagua as a person of interest.

It further claimed that the call was prompted by the seriousness of allegations circulating publicly, including supposed remarks attributed to William Ruto and claims by a former aide.

These allegations suggested a link between Gachagua and the student’s pregnancy and subsequent death.

According to reports, Wairimu died on February 12, 2023, with a post-mortem indicating severe blood loss caused by multiple uterine injuries. Investigations later implicated ten suspects in what is believed to have been a botched abortion procedure.

FIDA-Kenya emphasized that it had no involvement in the statement and warned against misuse of its name, calling for vigilance against misinformation and impersonation.
