“You Must Decide Now” Kasmuel McOure Sends Strong warning to Edwin Sifuna amid ODM Leadership Debate

Political activist and ODM Youth leader Kasmuel McOure has issued a strong warning to the party’s Secretary General, Edwin Sifuna, accusing him of undermining the Orange Democratic Movement’s leadership and the ongoing broad-based government arrangement with President William Ruto’s administration.

In a video shared on X on December 24, 2025, McOure challenged Sifuna to decide whether he wants to remain as ODM Secretary General or pursue personal political ambitions, including positioning himself as a Luhya community leader within the Mulembe Nation.

“Sifuna, you must decide whether you want to be the Secretary General of the ODM Party or a village elder advancing the interests of our political enemies and detractors. This is a warning from the youth to you and to leaders of your ilk,” McOure said in his post.

McOure accused Sifuna of disrespecting ODM party leader Oburu Oginga during a recent event. According to McOure, Sifuna focused on addressing Siaya Governor James Orengo while ignoring Oburu’s presence, despite him being the senior party leader.

“You addressed Governor Orengo directly as though he was the senior-most leader in that gathering, despite the fact that our party leader was there,” McOure stated.

He further alleged that Sifuna was acting on behalf of individuals outside the party, taking actions that undermine the partnership between ODM and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

McOure reminded Sifuna that his appointment as Secretary General was a responsibility, not a personal entitlement. He criticized Sifuna for focusing his political activities in the Luo Nyanza region while rarely mobilizing support in his home area.

McOure described the situation as political “chicanery” and warned that any continued undermining of the party leadership would have consequences.

“If you and your cabal continue to undermine the position of our party leader, Oburu Oginga, you will go. You will be the first one to go, and we will hound out all those cronies that you work with,” he warned.

McOure also noted that party members may move to remove Sifuna at the upcoming National Delegates Convention if he continues to act against leadership directives.

The Youth leader emphasized that ODM has one official leader, Senator Oburu Oginga, whose mandate was ratified in November 2025 following the passing of former party leader Raila Odinga.

McOure appealed to President Ruto to support Oburu’s leadership and allow party youth to manage internal saboteurs.

The confrontation highlights ongoing tensions within ODM since Raila Odinga’s death. Disputes over the party’s role in the broad-based government and its strategy for the 2027 elections continue to divide factions.

The broad-based government arrangement, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding in 2025, seeks to promote national unity and implement a 10-point governance agenda.

ODM’s internal cohesion is crucial to maintaining this partnership with the UDA, and the youth wing is playing a key role in ensuring compliance with party directives.

“The youth are committed to defending the party’s integrity. We will ensure that leaders respect the authority of Senator Oburu and the structure put in place after Raila Odinga’s passing,” McOure concluded.
