“What Will I Change by Staying Aloof?” Pauline Njoroge Urges Youth to Join Politics

Digital activist and politician Pauline Njoroge has issued a rallying call to Kenyan youth, urging them to take an active role in the country’s political landscape.

Speaking in an interview on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, Njoroge emphasized the critical role young people play as change agents in shaping Kenya’s future.

“The youth must get involved in politics, as frustrating as it can be,” Njoroge said.

“Change does not happen in a day. You have to take the first step and continue progressively.”

She encouraged young Kenyans to see political participation not as a chore, but as an opportunity to bring solutions to the challenges facing the country.

According to Njoroge, political leaders also have a responsibility to motivate youth engagement. 

“The youths need to realise nothing will change if they do not come out and vote. Leaders must inspire them, give them a reason to participate, and show that their voices matter,” she explained.

Reflecting on her own journey, Njoroge admitted that she initially feared the chaos and uncertainty of politics. 

“I was scared of the political turmoil, but I asked myself, ‘What will I change by staying aloof?’ That question pushed me to take action.”

Njoroge also revealed that she plans to contest for an elective political seat in Nairobi City, aiming to address some of the city’s long-standing challenges. 

While she has not yet disclosed the exact position she intends to run for, she emphasized that her goal is to implement practical solutions for residents.

“Nairobi needs a new plan. The current system is failing its people. Basic services such as water and sanitation are critical, yet the city struggles to provide them. I want to be part of a team that delivers a plan focused on service and people,” she stated.

Njoroge criticized the city’s existing leadership for failing to meet residents’ needs. She believes Nairobi requires a people-focused approach that prioritizes efficient service delivery and improves the quality of life for ordinary citizens.

For Njoroge, politics is not about personal gain alone—it is about responsibility and impact. She urged youth to stop waiting for others to solve national challenges. 

“You cannot expect change if you remain on the sidelines. Politics may be messy, but it is the path to making a real difference,” she said.

She highlighted that young people often have innovative ideas and energy that can transform communities. 

However, these must be combined with active participation in political processes, from voting to running for office.

Leadership and Mentorship

Njoroge also underscored the importance of mentorship from established leaders. She cited her interactions with senior politicians as critical to her growth and ability to navigate political structures. 

“Young leaders need guidance, but they must also be courageous and willing to step into leadership roles themselves,” she said.

In closing, Njoroge’s message was clear: the youth are not spectators—they are essential actors in shaping Kenya’s political and social future. 

Through active involvement, leadership, and a commitment to service, they can help create a Kenya that works for everyone.

“Politics is a platform to solve problems and deliver results,” she concluded. “The youth must seize that opportunity, and I am committed to leading by example in Nairobi.”
