Nominated MP Joseph Wainaina Iraya has strongly criticized Democracy For Citizens Party (CP) leader Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of attempting to politically “auction” the community to Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
Speaking in Eldoret,Wainaina cautioned residents against embracing politics he described as unproductive.
“We cannot afford to be led astray by one person,” he emphasized.
The Kenya Kwanza-allied legislator warned that the community, spread across almost all corners of the country, should reject approaches that do not benefit the youth or broader society.
In a pointed message to Gachagua, Wainaina dismissed the United Opposition Alliance, a potential collaboration between Gachagua and Kalonzo.
“As a community, we will not be auctioned and sold like goats,” he stated.
He added that the community would not allow individual political ambitions to dictate its collective future, stressing unity and self-determination.
Further attacking Gachagua, Wainaina accused him of turning personal political challenges into issues for the entire Kikuyu community.
“When you run into troubles, you have to deal with them on your own,” he said.
His comments come in the wake of growing speculation about a potential alliance between Gachagua and Kalonzo, which has drawn attention ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa has also weighed in on the emerging association, signaling concerns among leaders allied to Kenya Kwanza about the implications for their community.
Wainaina’s remarks underscore the tension within political circles, highlighting fears that some leaders may prioritize personal gains over community interests.
The legislator urged residents to remain vigilant and not be swayed by promises or political maneuvers that may compromise the community’s long-term welfare.
Observers note that this disagreement reflects broader anxieties over coalition-building ahead of the 2027 elections, with competing leaders seeking to consolidate support across regions.
Political analysts argue that Wainaina’s warnings are a strategic move to assert Kenya Kwanza’s influence while resisting overtures from opposition leaders.
