“Tuta Amini Ikimalizwa” – Gathoni Wamuchomba Laughs Off Ruto’s Announcement on Kiambu Road Dualling

Gathoni Wamuchomba has reacted humorously to President William Ruto’s communication announcing the approval of the 23.5-kilometre Kiambu Road dualling project, saying residents will only believe it when it is completed.

In a light but pointed remark, Wamuchomba said, “Tuta amini ikimalizwa!” (We’ll believe it when it’s done), a statement that drew laughter and mixed reactions from Kiambu residents.

Her comment appeared to highlight a growing public skepticism toward government promises, particularly regarding stalled or delayed infrastructure projects in Mount Kenya.

President Ruto had earlier revealed that the government had approved the long-awaited dualling of Kiambu Road, which connects the Nairobi-Thika Superhighway to Kiambu town and serves thousands of daily commuters.

The project, he said, is aimed at decongesting Nairobi’s northern corridor and boosting regional trade and mobility.

However, Wamuchomba’s remarks have been interpreted by political observers as a subtle jab at the administration’s tendency to make grand announcements without visible progress on the ground.

She emphasized that the people of Kiambu had heard similar promises before, and urged the government to prioritize implementation over publicity.

“This is not the first time we’re hearing such declarations,” Wamuchomba told a local audience.

“Our people are tired of words they want to see bulldozers, not blueprints.”

Her statement has since gone viral online, sparking debate among Kenyans.

Some have praised her for speaking candidly, while others accused her of undermining development efforts.

As the conversation unfolds, many residents of Mt Kenya remain hopeful yet cautious echoing Wamuchomba’s sentiment that only completed work will earn their full trust.
