Oburu Reveals the One Fear He Shared With Raila That Now Feels Like a Premonition

ODM party leader Dr. Oburu Oginga has opened up about a deep and emotional conversation he had with his late younger brother, Raila Odinga, just days before Raila passed away.

In an interview, Dr. Oginga said he warned Raila that the Odinga family could face big problems in the future if they did not settle some important family issues, especially matters involving their estate.

Dr. Oginga said he called Raila when he was in India for treatment and told him that their strong bond might not be carried on by the younger generation. 

He feared that if they did not finish arranging their family affairs, the younger members might fight in the future.

Dr. Oginga explained that they had planned to meet in Dubai on October 19 to settle everything, but sadly, Raila died on October 15, before the meeting could happen.

He reminded Raila that life is short and unpredictable. He told him clearly that if both of them passed on without settling the estate, the younger family members might not remain as united as they were. 

According to Dr. Oginga, Raila agreed with him fully and wanted everything settled, but fate did not give them the chance.

After Raila’s death, millions of Kenyans mourned him deeply. 

However, even during the mourning period, some cracks in the family started to show. 

Raila’s daughter, Winnie Odinga, openly criticized some ODM officials, saying there were attempts to “sell” the party. Her remarks showed signs of the tension Dr. Oginga had feared.

Winnie did not attend a ceremony that made her brother, Raila Junior, the family spokesperson—another sign of disagreement. 

During ODM’s 20th anniversary celebrations, she also questioned whether the current ODM leadership could manage the party the way her father did.

Dr. Oginga responded calmly, saying he had always stood with Raila and had never betrayed him. 

He said he would handle Winnie’s concerns privately, as a family matter.
