Gospel singer Shiru has opened up about the heartbreaking final days of her close friend, Bayo, describing how the two shared an unbreakable bond that lasted until Bayo’s last breath.
Speaking with deep emotion, Shiru said she and Bayo were inseparable, and she stood by her throughout her painful battle with cancer.
According to Shiru, Bayo had been fighting bravely for a long time, refusing to give up even when her body grew weak.
“Bayo fought until the very last moment,” Shiru said, recalling the night everything changed.
It was Bayo’s daughter, Sky, who raised the alarm after realizing her mother’s condition had worsened in the middle of the night.
“Bayo woke up in the wee hours and didn’t have the strength to call anyone or even stand,” Shiru recounted.
Neighbors rushed to help after Sky alerted them, and they quickly called for an ambulance.
Shiru accompanied them, praying fervently as the medics tried to help her dear friend.
“Inside the ambulance, I knelt and asked God to heal Bayo,” she said tearfully.
“Sky told the medics she wanted to go in too because she had something to tell her mother.”
Shiru shared the emotional moment when Sky spoke to her mother, telling her, “Mum, I know you are afraid, but you will fight this cancer and come out strong.” She then prayed, saying, “Mungu, usiache mama yangu akufe.”
When they finally reached Kenyatta National Hospital, doctors tried to stabilize Bayo, but her condition was already critical.
“She stayed there for two days, but the cancer had already spread too much,” Shiru said.
“Even when they gave her blood, her body couldn’t handle it. It was too much.”
