The family of Winfrida Charles Malembeka is in deep worry after she reportedly went missing shortly after being taken by people claiming to be police officers in Kibiti, Pwani Region, Tanzania.
Winfrida had just graduated this November from Mzumbe University, and her disappearance has now raised concern both online and within her community.
According to relatives, the incident happened on the evening of November 25.
Witnesses said that unknown individuals who introduced themselves as police officers approached Winfrida and took her away.
Since then, her family has not received any update about her whereabouts, her condition, or the reason for her alleged arrest.
Family members say Winfrida was in Kibiti for work purposes and had no known conflicts with anyone in the area.
They describe her as a calm, hardworking young woman who recently completed her studies and had a bright future ahead of her.
Her sudden disappearance has left them anxious and desperate for answers.
Winfrida is known to be a supporter of the ruling party, CCM.
However, people close to her say that she often expressed her views, especially on issues she believed were not being handled properly in the country.
According to those who knew her well, she was not afraid to speak out when she felt something was wrong.
Some individuals online now believe that her outspoken nature may have contributed to her being targeted, though these claims have not been verified.
The family has tried reaching out to various police stations and local authorities to find out whether she is being held, but so far, no official information has been released.
Relatives say they are growing more worried with each passing day and are pleading for help from the public.
Activists and social media users have also joined the call, urging authorities to give clear information on Winfrida’s whereabouts and asking for transparency in the handling of the case.
Many are encouraging people to raise their voices so that her family can at least know where she is and whether she is safe.
Human rights groups have also stressed that enforced disappearances or unclear arrests create fear among citizens and violate basic rights.
