Thank You For Being a Dependable Father, Raila’s Longtime Bodyguard Maurice Ogeta Pens Emotional Tribute

Maurice Ogeta, the longtime bodyguard of the late former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga, has shared a moving tribute that has touched many hearts across the nation.

In his emotional message, Ogeta described Raila not only as his boss but as a father figure, mentor, and close friend who shaped his life both personally and professionally.

“Jakom, your commitment and guidance over the years built me into the person I am today. Serving you was not just a job—it was a journey of learning, loyalty, and trust,” Ogeta wrote in his heartfelt message.

Ogeta served Raila for close to 18 years, walking beside him through political highs and personal challenges.

He revealed that he was with Raila during his final days in India, where the ODM leader was receiving medical attention before his passing on October 15, 2025.

Reflecting on those years, Ogeta said his time by Raila’s side changed his life forever.

“You were more than a leader—you were a symbol of courage, a teacher, and a true African statesman,” he added.

Ogeta recalled how Raila’s dedication to a fairer Kenya inspired not only his team but millions of citizens.

“Your legacy lives on through the people you mentored and the causes you fought for. Thank you for being a dependable father and a true mentor,” he wrote.

Witnesses at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport noted Ogeta’s visible grief as Raila’s body arrived back in the country.

During the public viewing, he broke down in tears as leaders and mourners, including President William Ruto, offered him comfort.

This was not the first time Ogeta’s loyalty to Raila had been tested. In 2023, during the Azimio protests, he was abducted by unknown individuals, interrogated about Raila’s activities, and later released—returning immediately to continue serving his boss.

Ogeta’s tribute has since drawn widespread admiration online, with Kenyans praising his unwavering dedication and the deep bond he shared with the late leader.
