Tanzanian authorities are on high alert over what they claim are plans by locals in some border areas to try to interfere in the country's October 29 general polls.
Tanzanian security agencies have announced heightening security in these areas, following intelligence that Kenyans are plotting demos, in solidarity with Tanzanian opposition's plans to disrupt the elections via nationwide protests.
Chairman of the Security and Defence Committee of Tanga, Batilda Burian, has confirmed the same, saying soldiers have been put on standby.
"All our borders are under watch and our soldiers are on high alert to ensure there will be no foreign influence or attempt to prevent our country from holding elections," she is quoted by Tanzania's ITV.
The Tanzanian opposition, led by the CHADEMA party, has announced massive protests against what it claims are elections with predetermined results.
This is as they demand electoral reforms to assure Tanzanians of free elections.
