Homabay Town Member of Parliament, Peter Kaluma, has said that many people in Kenya find it very hard to forgive former Cabinet Secretary for Security, Fred Matiang’i.
Kaluma said that Matiang’i was the one in charge when many people were hurt and killed by the police.
Kaluma said that during that time, people were protesting and asking for their rights. But instead of being listened to, they were beaten and shot. Many people lost their family members and friends.
Kaluma said that the police were under Matiang’i, and that means he was the one giving the orders or allowing the bad things to happen.
He said it is not easy for people to forgive a person who was in charge when their loved ones were killed. Some families are still crying today. They still feel the pain of that time.
Kaluma also said that even if Matiang’i wants to speak like a good leader today, he must first accept his mistakes.
Some people have said Matiang’i was just doing his job. But others agree with Kaluma and say that if a leader did something wrong, he must face justice.
Kaluma said that Kenyans must not forget what happened. He said we must remember the pain so that it does not happen again. People must learn from the past.
He also said that hiding the truth will not help. Only truth and justice will bring real peace to the country.
Leaders must not pretend that everything is okay when people are still hurting.
Kaluma finished by saying that the voice of the people must be respected. If people are crying for justice, leaders must listen.
