NEWS JUST IN: Dr Gikonyo Addresses Claims Oburu Odinga Was Admitted at Karen Hospital After Raila's Death

Reports circulating on social media on Wednesday evening claimed that Siaya Senator Dr. Oburu Odinga had been admitted to Karen Hospital shortly after the death of his younger brother, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

However, checks by pulsenews.co.ke have confirmed that the information is false.

A senior official at Karen Hospital clarified that Oburu Odinga was not admitted to the facility, dismissing the reports as misleading.

According to the hospital’s director, Dr. Dan Gikonyo, there was no record showing that the Siaya Senator had been brought to the hospital.

“This is to confirm that Hon. Oburu is not at Karen Hospital,” he said in response to the viral claims.
The false reports had suggested that Oburu collapsed upon receiving news of Raila’s passing and was rushed to Karen Hospital for emergency treatment.

Raila Odinga, who had traveled to India for a private medical checkup, passed away on Wednesday morning after reportedly suffering a cardiac arrest during a morning walk. The ODM leader was pronounced dead at around 9:52 a.m. Indian time.

Moments after the sad news broke, senior political leaders and family members, including Oburu Odinga and Mama Ida Odinga, gathered at Raila’s Karen residence to comfort the family. Photos and videos from the scene showed Oburu visibly emotional but in good health.

Later in the day, Oburu attended an official briefing where the government announced plans for Raila’s body to be flown back to Kenya. He told mourners that his brother had appeared to be in good spirits before his sudden death.

A government delegation led by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi is already in India to coordinate the repatriation process, working closely with Indian authorities.
Raila’s body is expected to arrive in Nairobi on Thursday morning, before being taken to Bondo for a public viewing and final burial arrangements.

Despite the sorrow, family members have asked Kenyans to remain calm and mourn peacefully as the nation prepares to bid farewell to one of its most iconic leaders.
