Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has pledged to facilitate transport for residents who wish to travel to Bondo, Siaya County, for the burial of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
The governor announced that his administration would provide buses to ferry mourners who want to pay their last respects to the late ODM leader.
Speaking in Kitale town on Thursday, October 16, 2025, after officially opening Raila’s condolence book, Natembeya called on residents to turn up in large numbers and sign the book.
He said the gesture would allow locals to express their solidarity with the Odinga family and honour a man who fought tirelessly for Kenya’s democracy and devolution.
Natembeya described Raila as the “father of democracy,” noting that his death marked a dark moment for the country.
He, however, urged Kenyans to emulate Raila’s courage and continue his legacy of justice and equality.
The county boss revealed that he had cancelled a series of political rallies planned in Kakamega and Busia to focus on the national mourning period.
He further announced plans to donate bulls to the Odinga family as a sign of respect and gratitude, recalling Raila’s earlier gesture when he contributed bulls to the family of the late Vice President Michael Kijana Wamalwa.
Natembeya emphasized that Raila’s passing should not signal the end of the struggle for freedom but rather reignite the spirit of patriotism among Kenyans. He said Raila’s life symbolized resilience and selflessness in the pursuit of a better nation.
Meanwhile, a section of Uasin Gishu residents appealed to their county government to provide transport to Bondo for the burial ceremony.
They expressed a desire to stand in unity with the rest of the country as Kenyans prepare to bid farewell to the veteran opposition leader on Sunday.
