The world and Olympic champion won the women’s mile race at the Athlos event in New York City, beating top athletes, including Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay, to claim the crown.
Kipyegon crossed the finish line with an impressive time of 4:17.78, proving once again that she remains unstoppable on the track.
Her long-time rival Tsegay came in second, while America’s Nikki Hultz finished third. The victory was extra special because it extended Kipyegon’s winning streak over Tsegay to 19 consecutive races — a record that speaks volumes about her dominance in middle-distance running.
The Athlos event, sponsored by American businessman Alexis Ohanian, is quickly gaining global attention for rewarding athletes generously.
Unlike many competitions where athletes wait for weeks to receive their prize money, winners at Athlos are paid instantly.
For her victory, Kipyegon received 42.38 (about KSh 7.7 million) — money that went directly into her account moments after the race.
The event also promised an additional USD 250,000 for anyone who broke a world record, though no new records were set this time.
Speaking after the race, a delighted Kipyegon thanked her supporters and dedicated her win to young athletes in Kenya who dream of following in her footsteps.
“I am the queen of this event, and being crowned here means a lot. I run not just for myself, but to inspire others to dream big,” she said.
Her words earned loud applause from the crowd, which included tennis legend Serena Williams, who personally congratulated Kipyegon and helped crown her the event’s winner.
Kipyegon’s success in New York adds another milestone to a remarkable season that has seen her dominate every race she entered.
Beyond the medals and money, her focus remains on inspiring the next generation of runners and reminding the world that Kenyan athletes still rule the track.
