Letoo Reveals Why They Were Denied To View Raila's Body In India

Renowned journalist Stephen Letoo has opened up about the emotional moment he and other Kenyans living abroad experienced upon arriving in India following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Letoo revealed that they had hoped to pay their last respects but were unable to view the body due to strict security protocols and a packed schedule.

Speaking to the media, Letoo recounted the tense atmosphere at the airport as Kenyans in the diaspora, many of whom had gathered with flags and flowers, waited in vain to get a glimpse of the late statesman’s remains.

“When we landed in India, we didn’t get a chance to view Raila Odinga’s body. The security was extremely tight, and everything was handled with high-level protocol,” he said.

He explained that the itinerary was controlled by the official government delegation, leaving no room for spontaneous tributes from the public.

Despite the disappointment, Letoo noted that Kenyans abroad expressed immense respect and love for Raila, with many describing him as a father figure and a symbol of democratic struggle.

The late Raila’s global influence has been felt far beyond Kenya’s borders, and the turnout in India was proof of his far-reaching legacy.

Diaspora groups are now planning their own memorial service in his honor to ensure they too can celebrate his life and contribution to the nation.

The former Prime Minister’s death has continued to evoke deep emotions both at home and abroad, with thousands lining up at various viewing points to bid farewell to a leader many regarded as the “People’s President.”
