Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i on Friday made a strong declaration during a Wiper Democratic Movement event held at Uhuru Gardens, affirming that the united opposition coalition is determined to work together ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking before party leader Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka and several opposition figures, Matiang’i stated that opposition leaders have agreed to sit down and come up with one joint presidential candidate who will represent them in the forthcoming elections.
He said the unity talks among opposition leaders are progressing well and that the coalition is focused on restoring hope to Kenyans who feel left out by the current administration.
Matiang’i assured Wiper supporters that if the talks result in Kalonzo Musyoka being chosen as the joint opposition candidate, all leaders within the alliance will rally behind him without hesitation.
He emphasized that unity remains the key to defeating the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition in 2027 and ensuring that the country takes a new direction that prioritizes the interests of ordinary citizens.
“The opposition will not go into 2027 divided. We will sit down, agree, and choose one person to lead this nation.
If that person is Kalonzo Musyoka, we will all stand with him,” Matiang’i stated, drawing cheers from the crowd.
The former CS also called on Kenyans to remain patient as the opposition continues its consultations, saying their goal is to present a credible and united alternative to President William Ruto’s government.
The event was attended by several Wiper officials, party delegates, and supporters from across the country, who welcomed Matiang’i’s assurance as a sign of renewed unity within the opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.
