Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has stirred the political landscape with a bold and sarcastic plea to President William Ruto, asking him to "bring lies to Homa Bay" — a statement that has sparked heated debate across the country.
Speaking during a public forum in Nairobi on Saturday, Kaluma said those who previously told Kenyans the harsh truth about underdevelopment delivered nothing but hopelessness, while those accused of dishonesty, like President Ruto, had surprisingly brought visible transformation.
“The more they say President Ruto lies, the more development we attain,” Kaluma said.
“Those who told us the truth that we will never develop kept their promises. You who brought lies gave us real development. Ruto, please bring lies to Homa Bay.”
The MP’s remarks appear to reflect frustration with previous governments, particularly those perceived to have sidelined regions like Homa Bay.
While Kaluma has long been a vocal critic of President Ruto, his latest remarks seemed to acknowledge the ongoing development projects under the Kenya Kwanza administration, albeit in a sarcastic tone.
His comments drew laughter and applause from some members of the audience, but also sparked controversy online.
Critics accused Kaluma of political doublespeak, while others praised him for indirectly calling for more tangible projects in his constituency.
President Ruto’s government has in recent months launched several infrastructure projects in historically opposition strongholds, including Luo Nyanza, as part of his pledge to deliver development without political discrimination.
Kaluma’s remarks could also be seen as a subtle challenge to the Azimio coalition leadership, particularly in Luo Nyanza, to push harder for results and ensure their constituents are not left behind.
