“We Will Not Stay Silent”: Edwin Sifuna and Babu Owino Vow to Go on Criticising Ruto’s Govt

Nairobi county Senator Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino have made it clear that they will not be silenced in their criticism of President William Ruto’s administration.

The two youthful leaders promised to keep exposing what they described as failures within the government.

Sifuna, who also serves as the Secretary-General of the ODM Party, said that politicians should never fear calling out wrongdoing.

According to him, their duty is to defend Kenyans, even when powerful individuals attempt to intimidate them.

“We will not keep quiet when things go wrong. Those who are plotting against us will not succeed. We have refused to kneel before Nebuchadnezzar. Bad is bad, and we must call it out. As leaders, we are ready to pay the price for speaking the truth,” Sifuna declared.

The senator further revealed that vocal lawmakers have faced threats from state agencies but insisted that no amount of intimidation will weaken their resolve. He argued that silence would amount to betrayal of the people who elected them.

On his part, Babu Owino turned his guns on the president, challenging him to begin the fight against corruption by addressing scandals within his inner circle. He accused Ruto of pointing fingers at Parliament while ignoring questionable dealings close to his office.

“Mr. President, if you are serious about fighting corruption, you must start with those around you. Clean your own house first. The Bible says you cannot clean the outside of the cup while the inside remains dirty,” Babu remarked.

The Embakasi East MP went further, claiming that the government was surrounded by “Broad-Based Corruption,” making it difficult to take its anti-graft rhetoric seriously.

The two leaders spoke under the Kenya Mpya banner, a group of opposition MPs determined to keep the government in check.

Among those present were legislators Gathoni Wamuchomba, Caleb Amisi, Obadiah Barongo, Joshua Kimilu, Clive Gisairo, and Anthony Kibagendi.
