Uhuru’s Close Ally Hints at Ruto’s Secret Plan to Outsmart Opposition in 2027, Warns Gachagua

Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has warned the opposition against repeating past mistakes in picking a joint presidential candidate for the 2027 elections.

He argued that poor decision-making could give President William Ruto an easier path to a second term.

Speaking on Spice FM, Kioni criticised the idea of leaving the choice of a flagbearer to only a few individuals.

He recalled that a similar approach in 2022 divided voters and weakened the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition.

Kioni further cautioned that presenting a candidate from the Mt Kenya region could be politically costly.

He explained that such a move might strengthen Ruto’s influence in the vote-rich region while deepening opposition divisions.

Former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i is exploring alternative routes and attended the Jubilee Party National Delegates Congress last week.

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has reiterated that Jubilee will field candidates for all elective positions and is conducting a nationwide recruitment drive to boost grassroots structures.

Political analysts say the opposition must prioritize unity, careful candidate selection, and voter consultation to effectively challenge Ruto, noting that mistakes in regional strategy could influence the 2027 election outcome.
