The decision, announced on Monday, September 8, shows her commitment to building a transparent government that puts the interests of Machakos residents first.
Speaking on Monday, September 8, outside her office, Governor Ndeti announced that the suspended officials will not only be removed from duty but will also face investigations.
She confirmed that the full list of names has already been handed over to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
According to the governor, the affected staff worked in key departments such as revenue collection, trade, licensing, administration, solid waste management, ICT, and cashier services.
Investigations revealed that some officers were colluding with outsiders to issue fake receipts, divert funds, and underreport revenue collected from county services.
“Today I want to name and shame those who have been stealing from the people of Machakos,” Ndeti said firmly.
“There is no space for corruption in my government. Anyone caught misusing public resources will be exposed, suspended, and prosecuted.”
She further directed the suspended officials to hand over all official duties immediately to their respective chief officers.
None of them will be allowed to transact any business on behalf of the county until investigations are complete.
Governor Ndeti explained that the matter will not be handled internally but through the country’s top investigative agencies.
This, she said, will ensure transparency and accountability. Depending on the outcome, those found guilty will face disciplinary action, dismissal, or even jail time.
Residents of Machakos expressed mixed feelings about the news. While some praised the governor for her no-nonsense approach, others urged her to extend the crackdown to lower-level staff who also engage in corrupt practices.
In her closing remarks, Ndeti urged all county workers to embrace honesty and remember that public service is about responsibility, not personal gain.
“Integrity is the foundation of leadership. I urge all our staff to reject shortcuts, stop theft, and remain true to the people of Machakos. Together we must build a government that works for everyone, not a few individuals,” she said.
The governor’s firm action has sent a strong warning to public servants across the county — corruption will not be tolerated under her watch.
