"Two State Solution" Ruto Reveals Kenya's Stand on The Israel-Palestine Question

President William Ruto has restated Kenya’s support for a two-state solution as the most viable path to lasting peace between Israel and Palestine.

Speaking in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, Ruto said Kenya remains committed to global peace and stability, extending that responsibility to the Middle East crisis.

“Kenya is proud of its role as a steadfast defender of peace and stability, both within our region and across the world. We support the pursuit of lasting stability in the Middle East through a two-state solution, where Israel and Palestine live side by side in mutual respect and peaceful coexistence,” the president said in a statement posted on X.

Ruto attended the Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, which brought together leaders and diplomats to discuss practical steps toward resolving one of the world’s longest-running conflicts.

He reminded the gathering that Kenya recognised the Statehood of Palestine as far back as 1989, a position that, according to him, aligns with Nairobi’s long-standing foreign policy of supporting self-determination and peaceful coexistence.

The president’s remarks come at a time when the Gaza conflict and tensions in the West Bank continue to dominate global diplomacy, with calls for renewed international efforts to end decades of bloodshed.

Kenya’s position mirrors that of the African Union, which has repeatedly urged both sides to embrace dialogue and the two-state solution.

Ruto stressed that only mutual recognition and respect can secure a lasting settlement, insisting that peace in the Middle East is essential for global stability.
