Police Arrest Seven Suspected Gang Members Hiding In Mwea East and Kirinyaga, Recover Housebreaking Tools, Knives and Pangas

Police in Kirinyaga County have intensified efforts to stamp out rising insecurity linked to organized gangs.

On Friday, September 12, 2025, officers from Kirinyaga East and Mwea East sub-counties carried out a major operation in Kutus town that led to the arrest of seven suspected criminals.

The swoop took place in the Maisha Kamili area, where the suspects were allegedly hiding. According to police reports, officers recovered several dangerous weapons during the raid, including knives, pangas, and housebreaking tools.

These items are believed to have been used in previous criminal activities within the region.

The seven individuals were immediately taken into custody. Authorities confirmed that they are undergoing processing and will soon be presented in court to face charges related to gang activity, possession of crude weapons, and other criminal offenses.

Residents of Kutus welcomed the arrests, noting that insecurity had been on the rise in recent months, with cases of robberies, assaults, and burglary being reported in the area. Community members expressed relief that action was finally being taken to restore peace.
Police Reaffirm Commitment

In a statement, the National Police Service (NPS) assured the public that similar operations would continue across Kirinyaga and beyond. The service emphasized that dismantling gangs remains a top priority to protect communities and ensure people can go about their daily activities without fear.

“The safety of every Kenyan is our responsibility. We will not relent in hunting down criminal groups that terrorize innocent citizens,” the NPS said.
Public Cooperation Key

The police further appealed to members of the public to continue sharing credible information that can help track down criminal elements. They noted that intelligence from residents often plays a vital role in guiding successful crackdowns.

Security experts have also encouraged closer collaboration between law enforcement officers and community policing units to curb gang-related crimes.
