Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga has asked party members to avoid making premature statements about the party’s political future ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during celebrations to mark ODM’s 20th anniversary, Raila reminded members that the party has a clear strategy that should be followed without unnecessary speculation.
He stressed that all official announcements on the party’s next steps will be made at the right time.
“Do not commit the party to positions that have not been agreed upon. Who told you ODM does not have a candidate for 2027?” Raila posed, hinting that the party may indeed front its own candidate in the presidential race.
He added that ODM already has a roadmap that members should focus on implementing instead of engaging in distracting debates.

“As ODM, we have a plan we agreed on. Let us stick to it and make other decisions when the time comes,” he said.
His remarks come at a time when divisions have emerged within the party. Some leaders have threatened to walk away if ODM chooses to support President William Ruto in the next election.
Among them is Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, who has publicly stated that loyalty to the party should not silence personal convictions.

Sifuna recently defended his right to speak freely, saying that being the secretary-general does not mean he must always agree with every party position.
“ODM is a democratic party. Every member has the right to express their views,” he said. Click here.
