BREAKING NEWS: ODM MP's Father Dies, Raila Odinga States What Caused His Death

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) family is mourning the death of Mzee Charles Antony Ondiek, the father of Mathare MP Anthony Oluoch.

ODM leader Raila Odinga announced the sad news on Wednesday, September 24, saying the late Ondiek passed away after bravely battling cancer for more than 15 years.

“It is with deep sorrow that I learned of the passing of your father, Mzee Charles Antony Ondiek, following a courageous fight with cancer. This is a painful loss for your family, and I pray that you find strength and comfort during this difficult time,” Raila said in his condolence message.

The ODM leader also revealed that he had worked closely with the late Ondiek at the Kenya Bureau of Standards in the 1970s, describing him as a man of integrity and a respected figure both at work and in his community.

“I knew Mzee well, having worked with him in the 1970s. Kanyakwar and the larger Kisumu County have lost a towering figure. Please accept my condolences and extend the same to your entire family and all who knew him,” Raila added.

Mzee Ondiek was widely admired for his resilience and dignity. Despite a long struggle with illness, he remained a source of inspiration to his family and community.

Leaders, friends, and ODM supporters have since sent messages of sympathy to MP Oluoch, praising his father for the values he upheld throughout his life.

The Mathare MP has yet to issue a detailed statement, but those close to the family describe the late Ondiek as a man who valued honesty, unity, and service to others.

His passing has been described as a major loss not only to the Oluoch family but also to the wider Kisumu community, where he was seen as a guiding voice.

The family is expected to release details of funeral arrangements soon. For now, relatives, friends, and political allies continue to stand with MP Oluoch during this period of mourning.

Mzee Ondiek leaves behind a legacy of strength, service, and resilience that will continue to inspire many.
