BREAKING NEWS: Makueni Businessman Killed Along Nairobi-Mombasa Highway, Here Is How He Was Killed

A tragic road accident along the busy Nairobi-Mombasa Highway has claimed the life of a wealthy businessman from Makueni County.

The accident occurred on the morning of Monday, September 22, near Athi River in Machakos County.

Witnesses and police officers at the scene reported that the tycoon was driving a double-cabin pickup when the crash happened.

According to preliminary investigations, the pickup was attempting to overtake a long trailer ferrying goods from Mombasa.

The driver reportedly miscalculated the move and tried to return to his lane too quickly, causing the truck to slam into the pickup from behind.

The force of the collision led to the trailer’s container toppling over, landing directly on the smaller vehicle and crushing its driver’s side.

Sadly, the businessman died on the spot. A passenger who was in the vehicle survived the crash but sustained serious injuries.

The injured person was rushed to a nearby health facility where they are receiving treatment.

Photos shared from the scene showed the wreckage of the pickup pinned beneath the heavy container.

Traffic was disrupted for hours as rescue workers, police officers, and towing services worked to clear the highway.

Authorities confirmed that both vehicles involved were removed and normal traffic flow was later restored.

This tragedy has once again drawn attention to the rising number of road accidents in the country.

Police say speeding, reckless overtaking, and fatigue among drivers remain some of the biggest causes of crashes on major highways.

They are urging motorists to be more cautious, especially on busy routes such as the Nairobi-Mombasa road.

The incident comes barely a day after another deadly crash in Nairobi.

On Sunday evening, a personal car veered off the elevated stretch of Outering Road and rolled several meters down, leaving the driver dead on the spot.

Witnesses who saw the accident said the car lost control suddenly, though the exact cause is still under investigation.
