Former president Uhuru Kenyatta made a surprise visit at State House last week, where he met with President William Ruto, a move that has aroused speculations over what they could be planning as 2027 elections draws near.
The duo were seen walking closely, a move that political analysts and Kenyans have interpreted as a possible reunion between two rival leaders.
And Taifa Leo reports that as internal turmoil rocks ODM party, Uhuru Kenyatta could be assessing the possibility of working with former prime minister Raila Odinga again.
The publication alleges that the conflict within ODM working in advantage to former President Uhuru Kenyatta to continue supporting Raila Odinga as a possible presidential candidate ahead of next polls.
“Even from the way he speaks and his demeanor, you can tell he will not support this administration. Sifuna wouldn't be speaking the way he does without Raila's approval.” said David Murathe, who is the Jubilee party vice chairman.
David Murathe emphasized that Raila's decision to keep his political cards a mystery is giving Uhuru Kenyatta enough confidence that they can still work with him, despite his recent bromance with President William Ruto.
“I’ve been told that ODM’s deputy leaders also side with Sifuna. Raila is a master of this game and knows how to capture people’s emotions before announcing his political direction.” he added.
Regarding claims that former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i is planning to use the Jubilee party to run for presidency in the 2027 General Elections, Mr. Murathe said no such matter has been discussed within the top organs of the Jubilee party.
This remarks comes at a time when Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has been speaking several times saying that Jubilee has endorsed Fred Matiang’i as the the party’s preferred presidential candidate.
Although Jubilee still believes Raila will contest the presidency, the ODM leader has not declared his candidacy and has said he will continue working with the current government until 2027.
“We haven’t said we’ll continue working with UDA after 2027. These are issues we will discuss when the time comes, and members will decide,” said Mr Odinga few days ago.
Nevertheless, this news comes in the wake of Continued wrangles within ODM party.
The ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has continued his lethal attacks against President William Ruto's Kenya Kwanza administration, opposing the move by ODM party's close working relationship with president William Ruto.
However, Raila Odinga's MPs has insisted on continuing to work with the government until 2027, and have threatened to axe Sifuna is he doesn't tone down his attack against broadbased agreement.
