Cherargei made the remarks on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, as political parties and opposition groups continued to reorganise ahead of the 2027 elections.
The senator’s comments were reported by People Daily after he said Sifuna would be “jobless next year” and that his side would work with Kalonzo Musyoka. The remarks were presented as Cherargei’s political assessment rather than an established outcome.
Sifuna’s political future has recently been the subject of debate as opposition leaders consider different coalition arrangements. On September 27, the Linda Mwananchi opposition caucus endorsed Sifuna as its presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election at a retreat in Nairobi.
Kalonzo, meanwhile, has been pursuing a separate political programme through the Ukombozi Alliance, which was formed after Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition was rebranded. The development has created fresh discussions about how opposition leaders may work together before the next election.
Earlier this month, Sifuna met Kalonzo at the Wiper leader’s Nairobi residence. Sifuna said they agreed that political leaders who were committed to the country should work together ahead of the 2027 election.
