Nyoro said PPK would seek to contest parliamentary, gubernatorial, senatorial and other elective positions regardless of whether rival candidates belong to parties within the opposition coalition.
Speaking during an engagement with PPK aspirants at the party headquarters on Monday, September 28, Nyoro said negotiations with other opposition parties would be limited to the presidential position and the running mate slot.
He argued that zoning was inconsistent with PPK’s identity as a national political party, saying the party would not agree to arrangements requiring it to withdraw candidates from particular regions or constituencies to give way to other parties.
The remarks by the Kiharu MP come as opposition parties continue discussions on how to pick a single presidential candidate and select candidates for other elective positions ahead of the 2027 elections.
For PPK, Nyoro said the party would proceed with recruiting and supporting candidates across different parts of the country rather than limiting its ambitions to particular regions or constituencies.
Nyoro’s position mirrors that of Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua, who has also rejected zoning among opposition parties ahead of the 2027 polls.
Gachagua said in August that opposition parties should be allowed to compete for elective positions across the country, with the presidency being the exception.
The former deputy president said parties within the United Opposition had agreed that other seats would be contested competitively rather than allocated through negotiated zoning arrangements.
