TRANS NZOIA – Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has paid an emotional visit to Kwanza Member of Parliament Ferdinand Wanyonyi at his rural home following the legislator’s return from India, where he had been receiving specialised treatment for several months.
The visit, which took place on Monday, June 29, 2026, underscored growing support from political leaders and residents for the veteran lawmaker as he continues his recovery after suffering a stroke while undergoing treatment abroad.
In a statement shared on his social media platforms, Natembeya said he visited the MP to personally encourage him and assure him that the people of Trans Nzoia continue to stand with him during his healing journey.
The governor described Wanyonyi as a dedicated public servant whose contribution to the development of Kwanza Constituency and Trans Nzoia County has earned him admiration across the region. He expressed confidence that the legislator would recover fully and resume his parliamentary duties.
“Today, I visited Hon. Ferdinand Wanyonyi, Member of Parliament for Kwanza Constituency, to personally wish him a speedy recovery. Having suffered a stroke while undergoing treatment in India, Hon. Wanyonyi remains in our thoughts and prayers,” Natembeya said.
He added that Wanyonyi’s years of service have positively impacted thousands of residents, making his recovery a matter of great concern not only to his family but also to the wider county leadership and the people he represents.
Natembeya further conveyed a message of solidarity from the county government, saying the leadership of Trans Nzoia would continue supporting the MP and his family throughout the recovery process.
“On behalf of the people and leadership of Trans Nzoia County, I extend our deepest solidarity to Hon. Wanyonyi, his family and the entire Kwanza community. May God grant him strength, healing and good health in this season,” the governor stated.
The governor’s visit comes just days after Wanyonyi returned to Kenya following months of treatment in India. Although he is now recuperating at home, leaders have indicated that he will require time and continued medical care before fully resuming his public engagements.
Since his return, several political leaders have travelled to Kwanza to check on his progress and offer words of encouragement. Among the first to visit was National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, who was accompanied by a delegation of Ford Kenya leaders.
Wetang’ula disclosed that the illness had affected Wanyonyi’s speech, making verbal communication difficult. However, he assured the public that Parliament was exploring ways of ensuring the MP continues to perform his constitutional responsibilities despite the health challenges.
The Speaker revealed that arrangements were being considered to provide Wanyonyi with a translator during crucial parliamentary proceedings to facilitate effective communication and ensure that the people of Kwanza continue to be represented in the National Assembly.
The proposal reflects Parliament’s commitment to accommodating members facing medical challenges while safeguarding the constitutional right of constituents to representation.
Wanyonyi, a seasoned politician and one of the region’s longest-serving leaders, has built a reputation as an outspoken advocate for development and improved public services in Kwanza Constituency. His prolonged absence from active politics due to illness has drawn concern from residents and colleagues alike.
Residents and leaders across Trans Nzoia have continued to express optimism about his recovery, with many sending messages of goodwill and prayers for his return to active leadership.
Natembeya’s visit also highlighted the spirit of unity among leaders in the county, setting aside political differences to support one of their own during a difficult period.
