Survey Experts Who Predicted Ruto Will Win 2022 Unveil Who Raila Will End Up Supporting In 2027

A new national survey by Trends and Insights for Africa (TIFA), a research firm known for accurately projecting Kenya’s 2022 election outcomes, has revealed widespread uncertainty about Raila Odinga’s political direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The poll, which interviewed 2,023 adults across all 47 counties, shows that 32 percent of Kenyans believe the ODM leader is likely to support President William Ruto’s bid for a second term.

This sentiment follows Raila’s unexpected signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Kenya Kwanza administration in March 2025—a move that stunned both allies and critics and sparked speculation about a possible political realignment.

Despite this, nearly half of those surveyed still expect Raila to maintain his traditional role as an opposition figure.

Twenty-three percent believe he may re-enter the presidential race himself, while 14 percent think he will endorse another opposition candidate.

Another 14 percent feel Raila could finally retire from active politics, marking the end of an era.

These findings underscore the complex and evolving nature of Raila’s political influence.

His next move is seen as pivotal, with the potential to reshape alliances and determine the tone of the 2027 elections.

The split in public opinion reflects both admiration for his legacy and uncertainty about his future strategy.

The possibility of Raila backing Ruto has stirred debate, especially among opposition supporters who view such a move as a departure from his long-standing reformist stance.

Meanwhile, others interpret the March MoU as a strategic repositioning rather than a surrender of opposition ideals. Click here
