NYANDARUA – Laikipia East Member of Parliament Mwangi Kiunjuri has declared that the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition is firmly on course to retain the Ol Kalou parliamentary seat, expressing confidence that the constituency is solidly behind the alliance ahead of the forthcoming by-election.
Speaking after a grassroots mobilisation meeting in Karau Ward on Monday, June 29, 2026, Kiunjuri said the reception received from residents demonstrated growing support for the Kenya Kwanza administration and its development agenda.
In a message shared on his Facebook page, the former Cabinet Secretary described the meeting as energetic and successful, saying local residents had reaffirmed their commitment to voting for the coalition's candidate in the mini poll.
“Hii imeenda! This afternoon, I held an incredibly successful, high-energy meeting with the formidable team and residents of Karau Ward in Ol Kalou Constituency. The energy on the ground is electric, the resolve is unshakable, and the message is crystal clear: Ol Kalou is locked under Kenya Kwanza,” Kiunjuri said.
The legislator noted that the campaign meeting centred on strengthening grassroots mobilisation in support of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Samuel Muchina Nyagah, who is seeking to win the parliamentary seat on a Kenya Kwanza ticket.
According to Kiunjuri, leaders and campaign teams used the meeting to engage residents on the coalition's development record while encouraging them to turn out in large numbers during the by-election.
“We engaged in a very candid, strategic and localized conversation focused on one clear mission—maximum vote mobilization for our Kenya Kwanza candidate Samuel Muchina Nyagah,” he stated.
Kiunjuri described Karau Ward as one of the constituency's most influential voting blocs, saying its residents had pledged overwhelming support for the coalition and its vision for development.
He argued that voters were backing Kenya Kwanza because of ongoing government investments in roads, electricity and market infrastructure across the constituency.
The Ol Kalou by-election has increasingly become a key political contest, attracting both government and opposition leaders seeking to influence the outcome. The mini poll is widely viewed as an important test of political strength in the Mt Kenya region ahead of the 2027 General Election.
In recent weeks, senior Kenya Kwanza leaders have intensified campaigns in the constituency while highlighting various national government projects currently underway.
Among the flagship projects launched or accelerated in the area are the upgrading of the Engineer–Ol Kalou–Nyahururu Road, rehabilitation of the 37-kilometre Ithagani–Ngorika road network, expansion of the Last Mile Electricity Connectivity Programme and the construction of a modern market intended to support traders and stimulate local economic activity.
Government leaders have maintained that the projects are part of ongoing national development programmes aimed at improving livelihoods and boosting economic growth in Nyandarua County.
However, the increased pace of development has attracted criticism from opposition politicians, who accuse the government of timing public projects to influence voters ahead of the by-election.
Opposition leaders have questioned whether the concentration of development activities during the campaign period amounts to the use of state resources for political advantage.
Kenya Kwanza leaders have rejected the claims, insisting that the projects were planned long before the by-election and form part of the administration's commitment to equitable development across the country.
Kiunjuri defended the government's record, saying residents were supporting the coalition because they had witnessed tangible improvements in infrastructure and service delivery.
“Karau Ward is the heartbeat of this constituency and today they have reaffirmed their total commitment to development, reliable leadership and the transformative agenda of the government,” he said.
