"You Can't Go Nuclear Without Clean Running Water" Miguna Reacts To Orengo's Statement

Prominent Kenyan activist and lawyer Miguna Miguna has sharply criticised remarks by James Orengo regarding Kenya’s path to becoming a first-world country.

The Siaya governor argued that Kenya still faces deep structural and governance challenges that make “first world” status unrealistic in the near term.

However, he stunned many by saying that Kenya should start thinking of going nuclear in case they would like to achieve first-world status.

Dr Miguna, however, disagreed with Orengo's proposal, saying that a country that cannot provide the basics to its citizens has no reason to go nuclear.

"You want to go nuclear and speak of the first world when you don’t have clean running water and toilets for Siaya residents, not to mention Turkana, Mandera or Lamu. Is it chang’aa or busaa that has messed your head, Orengo?" Miguna stated.

Just like Dr Miguna, Kenyans had mixed and quite strong reactions to James Orengo’s statement.

Some Kenyans agreed with him, especially those focused on development and energy, stating that going nuclear could support industrialisation and electricity distribution.

Others, however, rubbished his claims, stating that he was not being realistic about what it takes to become a developed country when there's a lot to be invested in other sectors.
